The Growing Farms Project is an extension of the Champlain Valley Foodshed Coalition. Through workshops, tours, and sharing experiences we hope to increase the number of economically viable small farms in our region.

We are fortunate to have financial support for these efforts from the Essex County Adirondack Harvest initiative.

Efforts for fall-winter 2005-2006 include

  • Farm to Chef Meeting for those interested in selling to chefs
  • Farmer to Farmer series - on farm monthly meetings
  • Tours to farms in Vermont and in the Capital District

Efforts for fall-winter 2004-2005 include

  • December workshop by Liz Henderson, focusing on production for and management of CSAs.
  • January 24 workshop by Jack Gurley of Calvert's Gift Farm in Maryland. The focus of this workshop was marketing and management.
  • February 7 Tour to Ledgewood Farm and Greenhouses in Moultonborough NY. Focus of this tour was season extension to have crops available during our "high" season.
  • Hosting Cornell Cooperative Extension's March 5 Beginning Farmer Day.
  • Co-sponsored with NRCS, March 12 Grazing Conference.
